Issue 39 - Southern Aikido Connection - Winter 2011
A Few Thoughts
The curse is "may you live in interesting times" - unfortunately we do. Christchurch has been hit by a damaging series of earthquakes since 4 September 2010. I am conscious that we hadn’t put out a magazine for some time but recent events have left us little ability to concentrate on matters other than earthquakes. So for this issue we concentrated on the quakes and the effects on our people at Aikido Shinryukan Canterbury.
IMPORTANT POST EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION
Posted February 26th, 2011 by ShaneOn Tuesday 22n February just before 1:00pm, Christchurch suffered a terrible earthquake. Our beautiful city has been shattered. My condolences go out to those who have lost family or friends; no words suffice.
Many of us have lost our homes and/or businesses; for those ASC members if there is anything I or we as a group can do, all you need to do is ask. At the time of writing this I am not aware of any ASC member or his/her family who are injured. If you have not contacted me, then please let me know of your situation. Personally I do not have power and can only be contacted either on:

Issue 35 - Southern Aikido Connection - Spring 2009
Whoa! The year-end grading is just less than 5 weeks away and we're still settling down from the awesome seminar by Yamashima Shihan! To all the people grading next month, all the best, focus on getting the basics right, and enjoy the grading - but the most important thing is, after all your focus on practicing the grading techniques, DO NOT STOP TRAINING after the grading because that's when it suddenly clicks that your understanding of Aikido has improved and you'll enjoy your training more. Kids 2009 mid year grading results
Posted June 28th, 2009 by JamesThe 2009 mid year kids grading was held on the 20th June at the Burnside dojo. Well done to everyone!
Before the grading the kids were treated to a class by Brent Beaumont, a 5th Dan from Waitakere, Auckland. His classes are always entertaining and informative (for the kids and the parents), we look forward to his next trip down.
See below for a slideshow from Brent's class and the grading, as well as the full list of grading results.
