This is a copy of the email from Andrew Williamson, head of ASC, in relation to the postponement of the 2011 Shinryukan National Seminar.

AIKIDO SHINRYUKAN CANTERBURY

25 February 2011

Hi

I [Andrew Williamson] am writing to you from Terry Mah’s using his computer as I do not yet have power at my home. Because of the lack of power the only contact I have been able to make with the outside world was initially through the mobile phone network and later by landline.

As you will be aware, Christchurch suffered a devastating earthquake on Tuesday and our beautiful city has been shattered. We continue to suffer regular significant aftershocks. The roads, power and water networks are badly damaged particularly on the east side of town. There are many dangerous buildings and situations to consider. This earthquake although of lesser size than 4 September 2010 was shallower and closer to the city; it was far more devastating.

Realistically we cannot run the seminar next week on 4, 5 and 6 March. We are postponing the seminar until later in the year probably in the latter half and we hope that you will support us by attending then. We cannot announce the date yet as we are still in the “acute” phase of this event and cannot be sure what facilities are available.

On Sunday 12 September Aikido Shinryukan Canterbury held the annual Spring Seminar. The guest instructor was Rosso Fernandez, Dojo-cho for Auckland Aikikai. Rosso and Andrew Williamson took 2 classes each.

Earlier in the week we were tempted to cancel due to the earthquake & aftershocks but decided to proceed. Although the attendance at 26 people was down due to events, those that came along enjoyed excellent instruction and the opportunity to focus back on aikido.
